CFP® stands for CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. The certification is the gold standard of financial planning. All OpenPlan clients work with dedicated CFP® professionals.
A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional helps clients achieve their financial and personal goals. Our team takes a holistic approach with an emphasis on your entire financial picture—not just investments. Our goal is to create a path towards financial freedom, confidence, and peace of mind.
A fiduciary is a person who holds a legal and ethical relationship of trust with clients. They are legally bound to make recommendations in the best interest of those clients. At OpenPlan, we are always acting as fiduciaries on behalf of our clients.
Brighton Jones, a nationally-recognized Registered Investment Advisor, was founded on the fundamental belief that wealth management should be about more than growing and protecting wealth—it should be about empowering people to live a richer life.
This service is delivered by a Personal CFO, an advisor who leads a team that plans and executes across every aspect of a client’s financial picture. OpenPlan shares this foundational approach to advising clients and is powered by the collective knowledge and experience of the entire Brighton Jones family, with engagements structured so that clients do not have to have large portfolios to qualify.
At their core, robo-advisors offer an investment product. It is easier than ever before for investors to access low-cost, globally-diversified managed portfolios.
OpenPlan does not compete with robo-advisers, we complement them. True financial plans, like the ones we create for our clients, are about more than just investments. They consider things like risk planning and insurance, estate planning, taxes, real estate and debt, cash flow, and more.
A Foundational Plan covers your entire financial picture. From employee benefits and equity awards to 401(k)s to IRAs and brokerage accounts to insurance protections to tax and estate planning and beyond, a foundational plan is specific to you and will give you clarity on how you can maximize the opportunities available to you and make the best decisions to achieve your goals. Having a strong foundation is key to building something special.
We are powered by the same philosophy and approach that Brighton Jones deploys with over $8.5 billion in assets under advisement. Our shared investment philosophy is based on human psychology, deep knowledge of financial theory, and a keen awareness of history and a focus on current events. Our investment principles are focused on managing risk and combining asset classes efficiently and cost-effectively.
We charge flat fees for financial planning. There is a planning fee to build the comprehensive Foundational Plan plus an ongoing monthly retainer to keep the plan moving forward, to update it as it evolves, and to be there whenever our clients need us. Investment management is offered for those clients who need it, with an additional fee that is a percentage of assets under management. There are never any minimums or long-term commitments. We don’t operate on commissions, meaning we sit on the same side of the table as our clients.
Yes. In fact, it is a key aspect of our ongoing support to ensure that you have the tools and the guidance that you need to execute your plan. Though we do not sell insurance or other products or collect any kind of commission or kick-back for making referrals, we do have extensive experience helping clients obtain products. Whether it is insurance, a will or trust, a mortgage, or anything else, your advisor will help you acquire what you need. Because we have your entire plan in mind, we can help you get the right product at the right price for your plan.
OpenPlan has no long-term commitment and no cancellation fees.
We meet with clients via videoconference or telephone.
Every client has a single, dedicated CFP® professional. Email or call them directly anytime—there is no limit to the number of times you can talk with your advisor, and you’ll never get an hourly bill.
However often you need to. You always have access and there is no limit. In addition to responding to your needs, your advisor will do an annual review of your Foundational Plan and be in touch periodically to check-in on your progress.
Yes, and in fact we strongly encourage it. We suggest that every client meets at least once with their advisor before signing up.
